The light is switched on automatically when the fan is powered on. This type of an arrangement is particularly useful for use during the night and in dark bathrooms where sunlight is scarce.

The CFM generated by the ventilation fan has to be able to cover the entire room. If the fan is too small, it would not be sufficient to create proper air circulation.
